The best Forward Financing alternatives depend on what you want to change. Forward funds $5,000 to $500,000 over about 3 to 18 months, repaid daily or weekly, and accepts credit scores from 500. If your credit is good and you want a lower cost or monthly payments, compare the Bluevine and American Express lines of credit, OnDeck or an SBA loan. If you need more than $500,000 or a longer term, look at Mulligan Funding, Rapid Finance or SBA 7(a). If you have been in business less than a year, Credibly lists a 6-month minimum. And if Forward's loan product is not offered in your state, other lenders may offer a fixed-payment loan where you are. Each option is compared below, checked in November 2026.
What Forward Financing offers (checked November 2026)
Forward Financing is a Boston-based provider of working capital to small businesses. It says it has served more than 100,000 businesses since 2012 and provided more than $5.7 billion in capital. It offers two products:
| Product | How it works | Where it is offered |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue-based financing | Upfront capital in exchange for a set amount of future revenue; payments are a percentage of revenue, so they can fall if revenue falls, while the total stays the same | Product availability varies by state |
| Business loan | Fixed installments with pre-computed interest and a set maturity date | Currently only Alabama, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin and Wyoming |
- Amounts and terms: $5,000 to $500,000, typically over 3 to 18 months, paid by automatic daily or weekly debit. Payments start within a week of funding.
- Published minimums: a U.S. business with 1+ year in business, $10,000+ in monthly revenue and a 500+ personal credit score. Forward says its underwriters may rarely make exceptions.
- Cost: a processing fee is deducted from the upfront amount, and pricing depends on your profile. Forward says the exact dollar amounts appear on the front page of every contract. It does not publish rates or factor ranges.
- Credit checks: a soft pull on the owner's personal credit, which does not affect the personal score, and a hard pull on business credit, which may affect the business score.
- Speed: decisions usually within hours; if approved before 3:00 p.m. ET, funds can arrive the same day by wire (fees may apply), otherwise usually next business day by ACH.
- Industries: more than 700, including trucking and construction; it does not fund adult entertainment, gambling, firearms or illicit substances.
For a business with a lower credit score and steady deposits that needs money quickly, Forward is a reasonable option. The reasons to compare alternatives are usually cost, payment rhythm, size and term.
Who should look beyond Forward Financing
- Good credit and time to shop. With a 625 to 660+ score, the Bluevine line, the American Express line or OnDeck may price lower, and SBA loans usually cost the least.
- Want monthly payments. Forward collects daily or weekly. Bluevine, OnDeck lines, the American Express line and SBA loans offer monthly repayment.
- Need more than $500,000. Mulligan Funding advertises up to $10 million (with $750,000+ in annual revenue), Rapid Finance term loans go up to $1 million, and SBA 7(a) loans up to $5 million.
- Need more than 18 months. OnDeck runs up to 24 months, Rapid Finance term loans up to 60 months and SBA working capital loans up to 10 years.
- Under 1 year in business. Credibly lists 6 months with a 500+ score and $15,000+ a month.
- Want a fixed-payment loan outside Forward's 14 loan states. OnDeck, which lends everywhere except North Dakota, and National Funding offer fixed-payment loans; check each lender's state list before you apply.

Revenue-based financing or a loan?
| Question | Revenue-based financing | Term loan or line of credit |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A purchase of future revenue, not a loan | Borrowed money with interest or fees |
| How payments behave | A percentage of revenue; can fall when sales fall | Fixed amounts on a set schedule |
| How cost is shown | Total amount sold versus purchase price, often a factor rate | Interest, APR or a monthly fee |
| Mainly underwritten on | Deposits and cash flow | Credit score, revenue and time in business |
| Use it when | Sales are uneven and speed matters | Revenue is steady and you want a known payment |

How FSE compares options from multiple lenders
Every lender above has its own credit box, and applying to them one at a time takes days and repeats the same paperwork. FSE (Funding Solutions Experts) is an independent commercial finance brokerage that works with 50+ lending partners across working capital, lines of credit, term loans, equipment financing, real estate-backed funding and merchant cash advances. You complete one application, and FSE compares what your business may qualify for across those partners, so you can weigh revenue-based financing against term loans, lines of credit and SBA options side by side on total cost, payment schedule and term.
- No fee to you. FSE never charges the business any fee; FSE is paid by commission from its funding partners.
- Minimums. At least 1 year in business and $10,000 or more in monthly revenue.
- No credit check to apply. FSE's application does not ask for your Social Security number and does not pull your credit. An individual lender may check credit later in its own process.
- No promises we cannot keep. Approval, amounts and terms are set by each lender, and no approval is guaranteed.
If your business meets those minimums, you can apply once with FSE and compare offers from multiple lenders.
Frequently asked questions
What are Forward Financing's requirements?
Forward lists a U.S. business with at least 1 year in business, $10,000+ in monthly revenue and a 500+ personal credit score. It asks for the owner's name and Social Security number, the business name and EIN, and recent bank statements.
Does Forward Financing do a hard credit pull?
Forward says it runs a soft pull on the owner's personal credit, which does not affect the personal score, and a hard pull on business credit, which may affect the business score. FSE's application does not pull credit at all.
Is Forward Financing a loan or a merchant cash advance?
Both, depending on the state. Its revenue-based financing is a purchase of future revenue, and its business loan, offered in 14 states, is a fixed-installment loan with pre-computed interest.
What is a cheaper alternative to Forward Financing?
For businesses with good credit, SBA loans, bank lines and online lines such as Bluevine and American Express usually cost less. Compare every offer on total payback in dollars and on the payment schedule.
Can I get more than $500,000?
Not from Forward, whose range ends at $500,000. Mulligan Funding advertises up to $10 million for businesses with $750,000+ in annual revenue, and SBA 7(a) loans go up to $5 million.
